Every washing machine has an important device called a pressostat.
It is a sensor that monitors the level of water poured into the drum and reports the electronic module technique about its quantity at each stage of washing.
Modern machines are equipped with such sensors, which are responsible not only for the water level, but also monitor the amount of laundry loaded.
The Device of Washing Machine Pressostat
The device of the washing machine pressostat looks like a disk with an air chamber inside, equipped with wires and a tube, the other end of which is in the tank of the washing machine.
The incoming liquid increases the air pressure both in the tube and in the pressostat chamber.
This raises the rod, which presses on the contact plate under the spring. This occurs until a certain amount of liquid is reached.
Then the electrical circuit of the relay inlet lamellae closes because the spring plate shifts to the up position.
When the water drains, the pressure decreases and the stem creeps down, which causes the relay to switch already downwards, with the electrical circuit being broken. The module further transmits the information and commands to the pump, heater, inlet valve and motor.
Signs of pressostat malfunction
If there are problems with the water level sensor, you can visually determine them by the following indicators:
- uncontrolled (much or little) water intake into the tank or vice versa drainingrisk of flooding the room;
- characteristic smell of burning;
- poor spinning of laundry or total refusal of the machine to perform this function;
- even if there is no water, the appliance may heat up the water and start washing, which usually leads to overheating and burning of the heating element.
Self-diagnosis of the pressostat performance
To check the sensor, you will have to take it out. Where is the pressostat in the washing machine? Inside the machine, To get to the part you will have to:
Remove the top cover of the equipment by sliding it back. To do this you need to unscrew the screws on the back panel.
- The pressostat in the washing machine is attached to the side wall and is held by screws. Disconnect the wires and the hose leading to the connector from the part. The hose is attached thanks to a clamp that can be pulled apart or unscrewed.
- Now you can remove the screws and take out the sensor.
When inspecting the part special attention should be paid to the tube. If you notice external damage or clogging, carry out the appropriate work: if it is damaged, it is replaced, and if it is clogged, it is cleaned. There are cases when the hose is loose and it is a malfunction of the whole unit. It is enough to simply put it back in place. If there are traces of oxidation or dirt on the connectors, be sure to clean them.
After the measures carried out, the operability of the part is determined.
To do this, put a small hose, about 10 cm, on the inlet connector and blow into it, while the unit should be brought to the ear and listen to whether there will be a click when the pressure sensor on the self-returning contacts. The number of clicks depends on the version of the pressostat.
If this number is zero, the sensor is inoperative.
A more reliable way to check is to use an ohmmeter. It is connected to the socket of the unit. The instrument will show data that will be different when the circuit is shorted or opened.
Each appliance has a manual in which the item is spelled out and a diagram of the washing machine pressostat is drawn.
Setting the washing machine pressostat
The central screw is needed to set the contact connection.
The peripheral controls their breakage.
There are models of washing machines that have more than one sensor. And the number of programs in the washing machine is very large, which implies the use of different volumes of water.
Take for example Gentle and Normal Washing. The difference in the volume of liquid is about half. Therefore, adjustment of the alarm is a delicate matter and is usually performed at the factory by specially trained people. In this case The position of the adjusting screws is usually fixed with varnish or paint .. If the adjustment is shifted, the whole washing program may be disturbed. Therefore, it is difficult to adjust and determine by yourself how much water the machine will need for washing in a certain mode.
Replacing the pressostat
The detail is not expensive and you can buy a pressostat for a washing machine without problems. Why we are not talking about repair?
Because the repair of the washing machine pressostat is a pointless endeavor. When you disassemble its body, as a rule, the internal parts are broken.
Which sensor should I buy? Exactly the same.The same model, the same type and name, with the same characteristics, oriented to the volume of the loading drum and the model of the machine.
The original parts will definitely fit, with them you do not need to break your head and their service life is much longer and of higher quality.
Before installing it, it would be good to check its performance and if everything is OK, install it in place of the old pressostat.
After the repair the machine is tested in several washing modes.
