Membrane fabric has a high water- and dirt-repellent effect and perfectly retains heat.
Clothing made of such fabric is light, warm and very practical. Due to what membrane has such properties?
The structure of a membrane fabric
The fabric retains heat due to the unique texture of the material, if you look through a magnifying glass you can see the small cells, which, when the temperature increases, release warm air and cold air, on the contrary, does not pass. It turns out a kind of microclimate to maintain a comfortable human temperature. The top of the membrane is covered with an invisible film and treated with a special water repellent. All this allows the fabric to stay dry from the inside.
The subtleties of washing a membrane
No wonder that products made of such a fabric require special care.
If the dirt is quite strong, the dirt has not yet dried, let it dry out and clean it with a soft sponge.
Now you can begin the actual washing process, You can't use a normal detergent. Now you can proceed directly to washing with a normal detergent, as it will clog all the "pores" and the fabric will lose its wonderful properties.
For this reason, we only use a special detergent Membrane fabric detergent.and it is usually liquid.
The instructions of the detergent say that it may also be used in the washing machineBut to keep the product for a long time, we recommend hand washing.
So, take the right amount of the product and follow the instructions. Do not forget to wear gloves.
Pour a small amount of water into a bowl, pour the detergent into it, stir it and then immerse our cloth in the solution. Let the fabric soak, and then proceed to the wash.
After that, rinse thoroughly in cold water (more than three times), and without wringing, hang it out to drain over the tub.
Dry the product preferably on a flat surface, carefully straightening out all the folds. The room should be fresh and cool, and the clothes must not be exposed to sunlight. Do not dry on radiators or other heating devices.
After each wash, be sure to impregnate the membrane. When the product is dry, apply a special spray on a clean and dry cloth. Then do not rinse, let it soak and after two to three hours safely use.
This procedure is necessary because the washing washes away the old impregnation.
If you do not re-treat the fabric, it will not protect you as effectively as before the wash. This product can be purchased at any specialty stores or online. Some vendors sell laundry detergent and impregnation on tap. This is convenient if the budget is limited, but it is more economical, of course, to buy a whole bottle.
Laundry soap or baby soap
In addition to special detergents for washing membrane clothing, you can use regular laundry soap or baby soap. Use the following algorithm:
- Dissolve soap in water;
- Immerse the clothes in soapy water;
- Using a soft sponge, wipe in dirty areas without pressure;
- Rinse and let the water drain over the tub, without wringing.
Machine Washing Membranes
This information is printed on the labelCheck the label carefully. If you decide to wash in the machine, consider such points as:
- washing only on gentle cycle;
- no spin or rinse:
- without detergents.
For heavy soiling the washing machine may not cope and the product will need to be washed again by hand.

Care and Wear of Membrane Clothing
There are some more recommendations for the care of products made of membranes:
- The garment should never be ironed, the cells will stick together and the garment can be thrown away;
- The garment should be treated regularly with water-repellent sprays;
- To protect clothes from dust, store them in special cloth or polyethylene bags, unfolded.
When wearing clothes made of membrane, there are also some tricks.
For example, under a jacket or overalls you need to wear thermal underwear and a sweater made of special materials (Outlast, Polartec, Windbloc).
If you wear a wool sweater or jersey jersey, then under intense stress, the body will sweat. The membrane will not be able to remove excess moisture.
Membrane clothes when worn correctly are very comfortable, it is lightweight, which is very important for kids who need to move quickly. This is impossible in heavy cotton and thick sintepon jackets and overalls. The membrane will not let you get wet in the rain, while it will "breathe", the evaporation will go out. Strong winds also do not have to fear, membrane does not blow through, when the wind blows the cells are closed and you feel warm and comfortable.
