If your washing machine starts to run with making a frantic noise, then almost 100 percent of the bearings are worn out. Why has it happened? How to avoid it? Is it possible to replace the broken bearing yourself? Read on.
How does the bearing work?
In the standard assembly, there are two bearings inside the washing machine, which link the drum and the pulley.
These parts have different sizes, the large bearing is located near the drum and carries a fairly high load.
The small one is on the opposite end of the shaft.
By means of the operation of the bearings the drum of the washing machine evenly rotates during the performance of the program and additional functions.
Causes of wear
If you had exactly a breakdown, that is, it has not passed and 5 years from the date of purchase, it most likely occurred due to due to:
- Constant overloading of the laundry, hence the imbalance in operation and premature wear of the components;
- a damaged oil seal, which protects the bearing from water ingress due to the grease. If the packing is leaking, water will seep in and wash out the grease, corroding the bearing and causing it to fail.
External signs of bearing failure:
- leakage under the washing machine;
- a loud noise and squealing during spinning.
Also, you can spin the drum, if you see play between the drum and the tank, then you should be alert.
Replacing the bearings of an Indexit washing machine
Choosing bearings for the washing machine in the store, take the worn parts with you beforehand, so as not to miss. If you buy online, make sure that the selected bearing will really fit your Indesite. You can also check prices online or by phone.
Tools for disassembling the washing machine Indesit
Replacing the bearing of an indesit washing machine with your own hands is not so difficult. The main thing is to get the bearings themselves, and it will be necessary to disassemble the entire machine. Have patience and the following tools:
- Phillips and flathead screwdrivers;
- socket wrenches and open-end wrenches;
- hammer;
- chisel;
- hacksaw;
- pliers;
- WD-40 lubricant;
- glue and, finally, replacement parts.
Disassembling the washing machine
Free the pump filter from the water (at the bottom behind the hatch, under the front panel) - unscrew and drain the water. Next, move the device being repaired away from the wall for further work.
Repair of washing machines indexit ws84tx, wiun 81, wisl 85, wisl 83, w84tx, iwsc 5085, iwsb 5085 and other models, when replacing the bearing, is carried out the same way.
Let's proceed directly to the disassembly of the device:
Remove the top cover, to do this, unscrew the two screws with a Phillips screwdriver from the back.
- Remove the back panel, unscrew the screws and remove the panel.
- Remove the front panel:
- remove the powder tray and detergent tray by pressing the central clip and remove the tray;
- unscrew all the screws on the control panel, two behind the tray and one on the opposite side;
- with a flat screwdriver unfasten the latches on the panel;
- do not touch the wires, the panel will be placed on top of the body;
- to open the hatch door, unbend the rubber, use a screwdriver to pick up the clamp, remove it;
- unscrew the two screws on the hatch, disconnect the wiring, remove the collar inside the tank;
- unscrew the bolts of the door with glass and put aside;
- removing the front panel, unscrew the screws.
- Remove the parts to pull out the tank with the drum:
remove the drive belt, pulling it toward you by twisting the pulley;
- Remove the pulley, fix its wheel and unscrew the central bolt, if necessary sprinkle with WD-40;
- Do not remove the heating element, but disconnect the wires from it and from the motor;
- take out the motor, unscrew three bolts and rock back and forth;
- Disconnect the pipe through the bottom, put the washing machine on its side, loosen the clamp with pliers and disconnect from the tank;
- unscrew the bolts that hold the shock absorbers on the bottom of the housing;
- Unfasten the cuvette, first remove the pipe by loosening the clamp, then the hoses, after unscrewing the bolt and remove all together, disconnect the pressostat hose.
Take out the tank.by pulling it up a little bit.
- If the tank is soldered, we make holes for future bolts and saw the tank with a hacksaw.
- We remove the drum by hitting its sleeve.
- The oil seal is removed by supporting it with a screwdriver.
Proceed to replace the bearing Indesit:
With a puller remove the bearing, if it is not available, using a chisel and hammer, knock the bearing, lightly tapping on it.
- Clean and grease the place for the new bearing.
- Put the part evenly into place by tapping on the outside of the bearing. Install the second part in the same way.
- Previously prelubricated gland prelubricated, place it on the bearing.
- Insert the drum into the tank, glue the two parts together, tighten the bolts and proceed to reassemble the washing machine.

Common mistakes when replacing
Study carefully the following recommendations, so that the replacement does not get into an expensive repair:
breakage of the pulley, you can not jerk it, only slightly rock it sideways and lightly pull;
- Break of heads of bolts, if a bolt doesn't go, splash WD-40;
- Breakage of wire of temperature sensor, be careful with cover of tank;
- damaged slide assembly;
- The gasket on the slide assembly has not been replaced;
- All sensors and wires are not connected during assembly.
So, you have seen that the replacement is quite time consuming, but doable, if you have at least a little experience with machinery.
Thanks for the article and video. Now with my son we are sawing and following your instructions everything works. May God give you good health!
