If you are the lucky owner of your own garden, and you have a good harvest of apples or other fruits, do not rush to give them away to neighbors so they do not spoil. You can build an apple press with your own hands from a washing machine and other improvised means. With the help of a homemade juicer for an hour you can make 20 liters of juice, electric juicer with such a task can not cope.
The manual press will also be useful for winemakers, as it will not require additional costs for expensive equipment. The press copes with large volumes and preserves all the useful properties of juice.
General information
Such homemade juicers were made back in Soviet times from old washing machines, but in our 21st century you can also use a failed modern washing machine. For yourself you can make a handy department for loading apples, more roomy than the purchased devices for a large capacity.
On a side note: when using a homemade press, fruits and vegetables need to be thoroughly washed and chopped.
Note: To squeeze the juice, use a fabric filter if you want the juice to be pulp-free and transparent. Allow the drink to stand.
Washing machines use tanks made of stainless metal, which does not oxidize and does not react with the juice and is ideal for working with tartaric acids.
Important: The press differs from the juicer in that it does not require the use of electricity, while it does not heat up and preserves the pristine taste of fruits and berries. This is especially important for winemakers!
To understand the assembly process, you will need a visual drawing.
Details
What do you need to get started?
1) Handle
2) The main screw of the press
3) frame
4) metal disc
5) washing machine drum
6) outer casing
7) pallet
As you can see in the drawing, this design does not use a motor, that is, the press, unlike the juicer, can be used without electricity.
So, let's consider the diagram of the press assembly step by step
1) You will need to take out of your washing machine drum, clean it from the lime and treat it well. Lime is well cleaned with citric acid and boiling water.
2) Weld the frame from a metal angle and make a hole in the upper part for a nut with a screw. The nut should be welded into this hole.
3) From a metal sheet make a tray, bending it on the edges for the juice drip.
4) According to the diameter of the tank to find or cut a metal circle and weld it to the screw.
5) To the screw in the upper part horizontally weld a handle.
The press works as follows: You twist the screw, the metal circle goes down and presses the fruit. The juice passes through the holes in the tank and pours into the tray, and from the tray drains into the underneath container.
A more time-consuming process is an independent redesign of an electric juicer, from an old washing machine.
Unlike the press, the productivity of such a juicer is much greater, you do not need to constantly be near the device. In addition, apples or other fruits and vegetables are only enough to wash, not additionally chopping.
From the old machine remove the tank and give it a good wash, remove the scale. It is better to use citric acid. Remove all unnecessary parts, including the heating element.
- All the holes in the tank should be welded, using tin sheets, leaving only the holes to which will be attached a drain for the finished juice.
- From a round sheet of iron to make a grater, it should be less than the diameter of the bottom at fifteen to twenty centimeters. Drill holes of five mm and make them convex, as in an ordinary grater. Put a metal circle on the rubber pad to strengthen the construction.
- Screw the self-made grater, the circle and the rubber seal to the bottom of the centrifuge with screws. Tighten the nuts well from the outside, they will vibrate as they rotate, so make sure they do not unscrew.
- Attach the drive with the belt and attach a motor of at least 1500 rpm.
- The holes of the centrifuge are somewhat larger than required, and a lot of pulp will get into the juice. To avoid this, it is necessary to install an additional fine mesh along the circumference of the tank. Or use a moistened cloth as a filter, also placing it on the inside of the drum.
- Above the grater should be fixed a tube for loading apples. The height from the grater is 4 cm, diameter 10-15 cm. It should be placed closer to the edge, for a more convenient extraction of the remains from the apples.
- This entire device should be installed on a steel structure welded from the corners, for stability.
- For the flow of juice to the tank should be attached tube.
Note: homemade juicer is good for hard varieties of fruits and vegetables: apples, pears, carrots, pumpkins. For soft berries, including grapes, it is better to use a press.
Washing machines, after failure, can be converted to many useful devices in the economy: crushers, wringers, mixers. All you need is a little ingenuity and patience!
