Types and Types of Drain Hoses for Washing Machines: Instructions + Video

How to connect the machineKnowing the diameter of your washing machine's drain hose is important for proper appliance operation. Drain hose usually comes with the washing machine itself. But the available length is sometimes not enough and you have to buy a new one. In addition, the hoses wear out faster than the appliance itself and have to be replaced. The wrong hose can affect the operation of the appliance and provoke rips.

On how to correctly determine the diameter, choose and connect the drain hose, we will tell you below.

Types of washing machine hoses

The following types of hoses are usually distinguished:

1) Standard. This type comes with a fixed length of 1 to 5 meters. Several tubes are connected together to extend it.

2) Telescopic. Has a length of up to 2 meters in an extended form and a diameter of up to 60 cm. Sold assembled in compressed form. During the flow of water, it vibrates a lot and with it happen clogs. This disadvantage should not be forgotten when choosing. In addition, with a strong stretch can tear.

3) Hose in a coil. Sufficiently convenient and practical to use. There are notches on it for independent adjustment of the length. The hose is usually up to 50 cm. But it is not recommended to use it as a drain. The risk of clogging is also great.

4) Drain pipe. Pretty versatile. It is made of polypropylene. Well removes contaminated liquids. At the ends has fittings with a diameter of 19 or 22 cm. The fittings can have the same or different diameters on the ends of the pipe. This facilitates the connection to the washer and sewer.

Hose tubes

Remember! When choosing a drain hose, pay attention not only to the length and diameter, but also to the type of hose.

Types of drain hose models

  • - Attached to the siphon. Mounted through a threaded connection.
  • - Attached to a separate outlet on the sewer pipe through sealing sleeves.
  • - Without connection to the sewer. Have a bend at the end for attaching to the bath, sink or toilet to drain water there.

Note: The third type of hose is uncomfortable, but indispensable for bad state of the sewer network.

Diameters of hoses and sewer pipes

The diameter of the sewer pipe, to which the hose is attached, is usually 40,50, 90 or 110 mm. The wall thickness is about 3 mm in PET pipes, and their diameter can be smaller. With a diameter of 40-50 mm wall thickness is usually also 3 mm, and with 90-110 mm - the thickness of 5 mm.

The inner diameters of washing machine hoses are from 16 to 63 mm. Most manufacturers have a drain hose inside diameter of 19 mm and an outside diameter of 22 mm. Some LG models, for example, have a diameter of 25 mm.

On the ends of the hose there are fittings for mounting a diameter of 19 mm or 22 mm. On older machines Indesit uses a diameter of 29 mm, but this size on other washing machines is quite rare.

The main manufacturers of drain hoses

  • The Russian company Helfer produces hoses that can withstand pressure up to 10 bars and temperatures up to 60 degrees. Fittings 19 mm.
  • Italian company Parigi Nylonflex produces hoses of increased strength to withstand pressure up to 10 bars and temperature from -5 to +70 degrees.
  • Italian hoses TSL withstand pressure of 5 bar and have fittings 19*22 mm. Suitable for Ariston, Electrolux, Zanussi, Bosch and Whirlpool washing machines.
  • EvciPlastic manufactures corrugated hoses with a working temperature of -5 to +60 degrees, a maximum pressure of 3 bars, up to 50 meters in length and a diameter of 16 to 63 mm.
  • Russian company TuboFlex produces hoses withstanding pressure up to 2 bars and length from 1.5 to 3.5 meters. Suitable for Indesit washing machines, Atlant, Samsung и Beko ..

Peculiarities of selection and measuring of hoses

  • - Measurements should be as accurate as possible, but without straining and rounding to the smaller side;
  • - Do not buy hoses much longer than necessary (the longer the hose, the more active the pump and therefore wears out);
  • - The hose should not be stretched or have strong kinks;
  • - Buy a hose longer than 3.5 m is not recommended;

Sewer Inlet

  • - Consider the connection of hoses with each other (sometimes used connecting tube, which you need to buy a clamp in an auto store);
  • - if the washing machine has a non-standard fitting, it will have to be ordered from the manufacturer or to increase the length;
  • - The diameter of the inlet and outlet fitting is usually standard at ¾ inch, which makes it easy to choose;
  • - find a place to attach the hose to your washing machine before you buy it;

As a side note: In Bosc, AEG, and Siemens washing machines, the drain system is under the front panel. With other manufacturers, it's usually on the back of the appliance.

  • - pay attention to the heat resistance of the hose (the optimal temperature is up to 90 degrees) and the marking with the maximum allowable pressure (2 bar is enough for an apartment, but for a private home you need to take a bigger one);

Important: Do not forget to check the condition and completeness of the hose. It is easier to buy everything at once than to run to the store later.

How to replace the drain hose of the washing machine?

  1. - Turn off the water supply tap;
  2. - Disconnect the washing machine from the mains;
  3. - unscrew the desired panel (depending on the configuration of your washing machine);
  4. - remove the clamps from the hose;
  5. -disconnect the old hose (there is liquid in it, be careful);
  6. - clean the inlet hose from debris and slime;
  7. - Connect the new hose;
  8. - check operation of the machine.
